I know exactly what you mean. I had spent so muchmoney on weight loss that sometimes I think I was single-handedly responsible for the diet industry's success :) For a while I gave up and tried to go it alone but I found that expensive too. Not just in supplements (which aren't really that cheap) but also in time. I spent so much time researching that I felt that I'd lost something there too. There are people out there who are looking for a solution to their weight issues. So many want a quick fix and that's what company's like HM offer. There are tons who are willing to pay for it and that's great if they have the cash. I was able to find a product that worked great and cost a whole lot less than things like HM or Dr. Berstein. (super expensive!) I found a shake diet that worked great for me. I lost the weight, found my focus and built a business out of helping others do the same thing. I'm getting my personal training certification and I'm going to be getting people off the couch and out to my free camps. I want everyone to "get it" and I hope that your bad experience doesn't derail your health goals. So many studies show that having support from a peer group, coach and mentor will increase your chances of success If you need some support visit my blog, call or email me. I'm always happy to suggest ideas for continued healthy living! Jacquie

been on the HM program for 5 weeks & lost 21lbs. Yes it's expensive, but so is making yourself overweight to begin with. I paid to make myself fat so my punishment is to pay to learn how to drop it! Just my wrong opinion though!

Thanks for sharing your post. I am sorry to hear about your bad expereince with Herbal Magic. While I have not had a similar experience, I would like to reinforce the fact that the supplement industry is NOT overseen by any regulatory agency. In short, marketing companies can say whatever to get their hands on your money. Don't be fooled - a fit and healthy body can be achieved with nothing but whole-foods and a tailored exercise plan. The better and effective way to lose weight is not through herbal remedies. You should have gone through lavar h2o cleansing to get a better result and way more other benefits. check out www.lavarspa.com, they are in Yaletown.

I just joined Herbal Magic yesterday, and I must say that if I would have done more research before joining instead of after, I would not have joined. Watching the episode on Marketplace simply strenghened my doubt. I have no problem with the food selection part, although I think it is a bit restrictive. However, I compared their food selection to the Weight Watcher's point system and they are pretty close, almost identical, although WW allows for a bit more calorie intake and better selection. I don't think 921 calories a day is sufficient, and pushing pills to help overcome that is another thing. After watching the Marketplace episode, it seems to me that the basis of this program is that once they got you to make that initial investment, and the longer you stay in the program, the harder it is to leave. Once you've invested all that money from the start, you're afraid to give it up in fear of all that money invested going to waste. That's where they get you, and that's when the pill pushing really has an effect. They will work on your fear of losing all that money you've already invested just to make you invest more. Try telling them that you don't want to take supplements, that you only want to follow the food selection schedule, without having to pay $350 a month for supplements, and see what they say. After all, if you learn to eat properly, excercise more often, why would you need supplements in the first place? My suggestion is, do all the research first, then make your decision. If I would have done that I would not have joined. I could go to weight watchers, get a food selection schedule, but only pay $15 a week for weigh-in and counseling. That's $60 a month compared to $350. It's all a state of mind. If you are serious about losing weight, there are ways to do it without having to refinance your house or sell your car. I am not saying the program doesn't work. I wouldn't know because I only joined yesterday, but doing the research and watching that episode of Marketplace really opened my eyes, and it didn't take long to figure out what this is all about.

I guess each plan has its plus and minus...and so does Herbal Magic. We are in northern BC and it just took a recent staff change to smarten them up. my daughter joint herbal magic, yes it works, but we made it straight clear from scratch, since we live in the country it will go by our rules, like no 3 times a week, etc.She joint the youth program and with her 14 years of age I was very impressed with the staff, how they explained everything and took really their time to educate my daughter in professional ways.for me personal its a bit too expensive, I can't afford the 2 of us, but I learned a lot. And the staff is even so great to advise me & support me as well.way to go Herbal magic....of course everybody has something to yapp and nag about...thank you to guide my daughter.

Just so you know, the body is self- cleaning. It's nice to have these supplements but at that price it's kind of a rip off. I good low fat nutritious diet will be best for anybody.

My complaint about Herbal Magic is the pills expense ($350. monthly), and worthless visits 3x per week. Plus they don't tell you UPFRONT that if you don't go there 3 x per week that they will call and bug you constantly. Finally, If you miss a month they close your file and get rid of you. You never get the same staff person when you go in which causes confusion.

I joined Herbal Magic and also feel like a fool. They never told me that if you don't reach your goal weight by a certain date - you have to buy more weeks!! They also never told me I would have to continue to take supplements while on maintenance - that will cost me another $1000. It is ridiculous how expensive it is and I am so angry they did not tell me how much it would all cost. I did ask them before I joined and they brushed off the answer. I feel like they sucked me in when I was feeling bad about myself. DO NOT JOIN!!!

I have been on Herbal Magic for a few months and it is an absolutely great plan. No other worked for me and I would recommend it to anyone. It's difficult to do it yourself but with their help it has made such a difference. When you reach your goal you need to help for maintenance. In time a person can continue on their own but I would give Herbal Magic a 10 out of 10. It's great!!!!

I know nothing about Herbal Magic, except that a dear friend of ours ended up in hospital after his blood pressure dropped to nothing. It was horribly frightening. He has a heart condition and was advised to lose a few pounds, so he tried the HM. He was instructed to stay far far away from it. It's not my intention to product bash when I know nothing about it....but I know as much about it as I want to know. Just thought I'd share.

I have nothing but good to say about the herbal magic I joined, only a week ago. I was diagnosed with a heart condition 4 years ago that prevents me from any form of serious excersize and I've packed on some weight. My centre checked all the supliments against my Rx medications and told me what I can and cannot take, and have started me only on 1/2 doses for the first month to make sure there is no negative side effect. They have also held off the $1000 fee until they are sure its safe... that doesn't sound like a money grab to me. They have never upsold me on any additional products, only that they are available if I chose to use them. First week alone im down 10lbs, and have never found I'm starving, in fact i struggle mostly with eating as much as they want me to. The food guide is great and I make all my own food, and can even eat out. My mother has had huge success on the program and I would recommend it to anyone who is serious about following the program.

Hi. You ALL need to watch the episode of Marketplace that aired on Friday February 26/10. It was all about Herbal Magic and how bad it actually is. They are ripping us all off, big time. And their products are not approved at all for weight loss. Make sure you check that episode out. BTW...........I am stopping my program. Cannot afford to spend another $2000 -$3000 dollars more. Also, they are only feeding us 921 calories a day. No wonder we are all losing weight. We are being underfed. That explains why I am so freakin' hungry. This program exposed all of the things we have all wondered about for a while. All we have to do is eat correctly, and the right amount. Not this 921 calories a day crap. PLEASE WATCH THE PROGRAM..... EVERYONE..... INCLUDING THE HM COACHES. IT IS A REAL EYE OPENER.

How unfair!!!! You lost 30 pounds so something worked. I joined almost 2 months ago and I have nothing but good to say. The supplements are superior quality and support from the coach is excellent. Stop being so negative ... you knew you couldn't do it alone so you paid to join ... simple as that. Of course you had to work hard to lose ... nothing or noone can do it for you.

I would like to state that each Herbal Magic is a franchise therefore each center is NOT ran the same. When I went for my consult EVERYTHING was laid out on the table( no costs where hidden) I knew exactly what i was walking into. As far as 300.00/per week I have no idea what herbs you were buying because the only ones that you need to purchase is the 2000s and chrommagic which is far from 300.00/month what I pay for my herbs is less then what I was paying for my Tim Hortons Coffee on a weekly bases. I choice of food was awesome I was able to have frozen food and well take out foods and yes I am able to have an ice cap( medium) and with white milk instead of cream but I am still able to want it IF i choose. As long as you stay on programm you see results and yes the Centre in Cold Lake, Alberta in courages you to work out because it' is about a HEALTHY lif style. The owner operator Maggie McKinnin is gone through the programm herself and lost termendous amounts of weight and continiues to educate herself and is getting her degree in Nutrition as well. I wish that CBC has looked at the Cold Lake Center becuase it is nothing like the one in there interview. The glas att he center are up front and honest about everything, and they do not PUSH anything on anyone. So please do not judge the whole programm by few bad expreiences, there are so many different elements and questions to be asked as to why these individuals had the experienes they had. Because my personal experience has been nothing but POSITIVE and I have lost 30 pounds and 37 inches...... and this is through a horse back riding accident and the stress of planning my wedding :) Once again I have had nothing but a positive experience with Herbal Magic Owner and Operated by Maggie McKinnin in Cold Lake, Alberta

Just so you know, the Herbal Magic "health coaches" are neither nutritionists nor trained coaches in any way, shape, or form - and on top of that, they get commission on whatever supplements they can sell you. On top of that, the Natural Health Products Directorate says they are not licensed to make the health claims that they make in their marketing materials. http://cot.ag/aZnmpy (link to NaturalHealthcare.ca info)

Here is a link to the CBC program which exposes Herbal Magic as a fraud. You can see that Fraser Clark looks like a deer caught in the headlights and then has the nerve to try and defend the indefensible. He comes off looking like an old fashioned snake oil salesman. http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/blog/2010/02/questioning-the-magic-at-herbal-magic.html

Herbal Magic is a total scam. Watch the CBC program Marketplace to see all the details. I'm outraged that this company has been getting away with this scam for so long. When will the Government bring charges against then for fraud? And I wonder why Steve Hudson, the owner of Herbal Magic, chose to hide from the cameras of CBC and instead, sent his underling to the cameras for slaughter. Save your money and stay away.
